And she tried to fancy what the flame of a candle is like after the candle is blown out, for she could not remember ever having seen such a thing

Last night was one of those nights. One of those nights where you are painfully aware of the fact that you are asleep. Asleep in a frozen wasteland of over zealous RM's, bleach-blonds with seemingly unfading tans, and mountains of homework. Asleep on a ten- cent uniform apartment mattress-- when deep down you know you aren't a ten cent uniform kind of girl. Needless to say, sleep last night was pointless, and I can't help but feeling that those evening minutes were some of the most wasted of the semester. If only I could teach my brain how to function at three a.m. at least I would be tired and productive. Alas! I am simply tired, and my productivity level for this mundane Monday feels mediocre.

In a way, my flame has been blown out, and tomorrow brings on the image of what a candle's flame looks like after it has been blown out. If you could truly see what a blown out flame looks like, you would see enduring perseverance and determination incarnate. For after a flame has been blown out, when the candle is lit again, how quickly it jumps back to life--burning brighter than when first lit.

So here is to determination--lasting and strong, kick butt, get up when you are down, fight back determination. Get out there. Push harder. Stay strong-- because when that candle reignites, you'll find yourself burning brighter than ever before.

Hugs and Kisses,
Al

P.S- To the great women in my life (most importantly my mother and two dynamic sisters)--I love you. Thank you for your example and your strength.
