Tonight's blog is posted in humiliation. If ever there were a time that I wanted to disappear beneath a paper bag, it was today around three:forty-five p.m. I won't even go into details, but the title of this blog basically says it all. When I called my mother this afternoon I felt very much as Alice did standing in the court of the Queen. Only thing is, is I deserve to be standing in as mean a court and my wise mother, unlike the Queen, is definitely not mad . . . well not in that way.
Mothers are always right. I don't know that that statement is definitive for fathers as well, but this I know. Mothers are always right.
right:
1.) in conformity with fact, reason, truth, or some standard or principle; correct.
2.) correct in judgment, opinion, or action.
3.) socially approved, desirable, or influential: ". . .know the right people."
All of the above definitions apply, especially to my mother. I also know many of my friends' mothers very well. Why on earth we teenagers/young adults feel we know more than our mothers is beyond me. I am grateful for my mother's patience. She puts up with me and my unremitting smartie-pants, dumb-butt, big headed teenage opinions and attitudes daily.
So, guys and gals--give it up for the mothers in your lives. Let's start showing them the respect they deserve by listening to what they have to say and applying it to our own lives. My mother has never been wrong about anything, ever. It's an amazing thing. So often she gets to say, I told you so to me. Well today is the day I flip the tables, I am going to take her advice so that she can't say "I told you so" any more. As a teenager, my life would be completely different right now, on so many levels, if I had just listened more to my mother's wise nuggets of wisdom.
So, give it up for the ladies. They put up with us. Do them a big favor and LISTEN.
